Meta-owned entities currently dominate the list of the most popular apps in the United States in terms of users, making up four out of the top 10. What about the most popular apps with regard to the number of downloads?

According to a survey, short-form video-sharing app TikTok is the most downloaded app in the US. That’s not all. Not only is TikTok expected to be one of the fastest-growing social media platforms in the country this year, the Bytedance-owned app is also currently the fourth most used platform, frequented by nearly half of all adult social users. The same survey shows that TikTok is also the app on which US consumers spend the most amount of money.
If you’re thinking of marketing your brand on TikTok, you may want to pay attention to the following demographic: there are slightly more female TikTok users (55.6%) than male (44.4%) users in the US.

TikTok is followed by Instagram, the second most downloaded app in the US. Instagram’s user base in the US is forecast to rise by 6% this year. Two other social media apps, WhatsApp and Facebook, rank in third and fourth places, respectively.
The fifth most downloaded app in the US is Cash App, a mobile payment service that lets users send and receive money instantly. The number of Cash App users in the US is expected to surpass 50 million this year, after an 18.7% annual increase, and hit 63 million by 2026.
Most downloaded app in the US: sixth to 10th
Video-sharing platform YouTube is the sixth most downloaded app in the US. Another Meta-owned chat app, Facebook Messenger, is next, in seventh place. Ecommerce giant Amazon’s shopping app ranks eighth on the list of the most downloaded apps in the US. This is followed by video streaming service Disney+. Social network Snapchat completes the top 10.
Of the 10 most downloaded apps in the US, seven are social networks. This list also looks fairly similar to the ranking of the top apps in the US in terms of users. The only three apps on this list that do not feature on the other are Cash App, YouTube, and Disney+.
